The Home for the Brave project has broken ground!

The Home for the Brave will house a Veteran who will foster and care for up to four service dog candidates. Placing these dogs into this home environment will give them an opportunity to decompress from their life in the shelter. The dogs will be the future service dogs for our Dogs2Vets program; lifelong partners with the Veteran they train with. Additionally, the Veteran who resides in the home will provide a full-time presence on our property and help maintain a safe and secure environment for our community of veterans.

Honor Flight

Honor Flight Syracuse, Mission #3, April 5 2014

Earl Fontenot, Clear Path for Veterans

I had the amazing opportunity to serve as a guardian for Honor Flight Syracuse, Mission #3.  I can honestly say that this was one of the mostfulfilling things that I’ve been a part of since I left the military in 2006. I served in the US Army from 2003-2006 as an artilleryman in an infantry role in both Afghanistan and Iraq. I volunteered to assist the Honor Flight as the guardian of a local Korean War Veteran. His last visit to Washington DC was over a decade ago.

The Honor Flight began with an incredible day that started at 5 a.m.  A group of us, including WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans passed through the Syracuse airport security. Patriot Guard Riders lined the halls of the airport to wish us well and see us off.  Our flight landed at Ronald Reagan International Airport. I was not expecting such an impressive gathering to welcome these heroes on our flight. The airport fire department showered the plane with a water cannon salute as we landed, and inside the terminal what I can only describe as a “a welcome home parade” awaited our group. There were hundreds of cheering people and bands playing music.

Check out POS-REP

POS-REP is an iPhone app (coming soon for Android) that lets you connect with other Veterans and Service Organizations in your area. We work with POS REP to ensure Vets know about our services, and they can use us to find other Veterans nearby. There’s a lot that we aren’t going to ask, or say to, a stranger – but another Veteran might have the answer we need. That’s what POS REP is for. It’s completely free. Please download it and look up Clear Path for Veterans and we’ll get you set up. If you have any problems, email me –
